Christmas lights in Franklin Rd, Auckland City. When God put me (SM Anderson) in a lovely townhouse in the most picturesque street in the whole of Auckland, I had no idea that every December, every house is adorned with lights and that literally hundreds of thousands of people walk or drive to see the lights. Of course, it was an opportunity not to be missed! Now in the USA, putting lights on your house is pretty normal, but in New Zealand it's just not something they do, so Franklin Road is very unique. There is not a single other house in our Franklin Rd that portrays anything of a Christian message. Our lights, although smaller than most houses around mine, have attracted the most attention. Our message was simple - Happy Birthday Jesus. We now have thousands of people every night, walking and driving past our house declaring out loud, and with kids, often at the top of their lungs, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!! TV3, a national free-to-air broadcaster also showcased our lights on a Franklin Rd special. It would have been seen by at least half a million viewers. We bought 2x 9 metre long flexible rope lights, used pull-ties to position them on chicken-wire, and used black tape to mask off the letters. They flash, are very bright and can be seen from over 300 metres away. All it cost was $83.50 and about 4 hours. Next Christmas, and even this coming Easter, please consider doing something similar to your house. Here are some photos.
